Jasbinder Athwal is a Managing Director and is the Global Head of Financial Crime at Natwest Markets and its SMF17. Jasbinder is a seasoned and experienced Financial Crime professional, and has worked in the industry for over 20 years at several investment banks where he has held a number of senior roles within Financial Crime.

Prior to joining Natwest Markets, Jasbinder was at Nomura where he led their AML programme. Before that he was the Head of the Sanctions Global Assurance Financial Crime function at HSBC, responsible for assessing the global Second Line of Defence Sanctions function during the full period of time that HSBC was under its DoJ Monitor programme. Before joining HSBC, Jasbinder was the Deputy Global Head of Sanctions Compliance at Credit Suisse whilst it was under its DoJ Sanctions Monitor programme, and was also the Head of the EMEA AML Advisory function there. Jasbinder also has significant experience from his time working in the Financial Crime functions at Goldman Sachs and Barclays Capital, where he was a SME in their AML functions.

Jasbinder obtained his Masters in Law and Economics at the Universities of Rotterdam, Hamburg and Manchester, and he is a Fellow of the International Compliance Association.
